STAC is a wonderful tool that is easy to use and very helpful in evaluating cognitive-linguistic skills! I love that a score report is automatically produced after the test is complete. I am thrilled that there is a new standardized tool out there to assess cognition and I think a lot of people will find this tool to be very useful!

Lisa, Thank you for your comments! We too are very excited to have rolled out STAC and are confident it will change the landscape of cognitive screens for OT and SLP providers.

What cognitive domains does this test include? Does it include and/or differentiate between the various levels of attention? Do any of the tasks require >3-5 minutes of attention? Does it have any executive functioning tasks? Or higher problem-solving? How language-dependent is it? How long are the time lapse for memory testing? Are the tasks static or dynamic? Are there any other auditory tasks other than the one you mentioned? How long does it take to administer? Is the standardization stratified by age ranges? How about for level of education? Has it been validated against other tests?

Susie, thanks for contacting us. It was great to speak with you in person last week to discuss your questions! Let me know if you have additional questions about STAC!

Has it been validated against other tests? When I looked at your Norm. Data section on this website, only a small number of people have been tested and many of the older age ranged have not been normed. When do you plan to do more norm testing in order to call this test a truly standardized test that us (as speech-language-pathologist) can then ethically bill medicare/medicaid with the CPT code 96125, which is strictly for Standardized cognitive performance testing.

Tiffany, Thanks for contacting us! We currently have a validation study in progress looking at scores between STAC and 2 other cognitive assessments. We believe there will be some good information coming out of this study that will support what we already feel to be valid assessment. Our normative database is also growing. The younger age ranges have smaller numbers, so aren't quite as robust as the older group. But, yes we do have normative data on the older age ranges. I'd be happy to talk in person if interested, you can email me at [email protected]

Hello. I am looking for an interpretation of the percentages provided at the completion of the test. What is WNL? What are the mild/mod/severe classifications based on those percentages?

STAC is an easy to administer test that can act as a screening tool, and adjunct test to determine what to test further or as a complement to other aspects of ones professional scope. With a new alternate version coming it will be easy to document progress. I like many aspect of it including the brief but adequate training portion such that ipad proficiency/use is not assumed. This also gives those with language issues some help in acclimating (though it would not be appropriate for some lower level students). As others have mentioned the automatically generated reports are helpful and therapist friendly. When I recently had the inevitable technical glich---which has only happened in one of 4 times I have administered it and was likely my fault rather than a product problem---I found the staff helpful to make the most of not having had that report generated. This tells me they stand behind the product and are actively working to improve it. STAC is a nice use of technology in our modern therapy world.

So far I have enjoyed using this assessment. One recommendation is to account for the time component in the orientation section to record correct responses in military/ 24 hour time. The app not accounting for correct but alternative ways has thrown off many of my orientation scores.
